Atalanta’s Musso helps stop Arsenal's slide
By Andy Hampson
London, UK - Arsenal came from behind to beat Atalanta 2-1 at the Emirates Stadium in the Europa League. But they were indebted to goalkeeper Bernd Leno for a stunning display featuring a string of top saves.
The Gunners fell behind early doors to a glancing header from Duvan Zapata, the Colombian striker’s 6th of the season in the continental competition.
Leno keeps Arsenal in the tie
Arsenal, who have endured a torrid run of form domestically, were rocked by Zapata's early goal. But they immediately went in search of an equaliser and were grateful to Leno for keeping out Zapata's follow-up header soon after.
Leno also thwarted Josip Ilicic & Mario Pasalic to ensure Atalanta would not take a healthy lead into the second leg in Bergamo next week.
The German stopper’s heroics gave Arsenal hope & they levelled midway through the second half through Bukayo Saka.
Saka strikes for Arsenal
The 18-year-old winger latched onto a fine pass from Kieran Tierney before slotting home his first goal in Europe.
Arsenal upped the pressure in the closing stages and got their reward with 11 minutes remaining. Nicolas Pepe’s teasing cross found Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who controlled & dispatched from close range.
It was the Gabonese striker’s 12th goal in the Europa League, more than any other player.
