Cardinals Outlast Brewers 7 4 In Slugfest

Cardinals Outlast Brewers 7-4 in Slugfest

Late-Inning Meltdown Costs Brewers

Milwaukee's offense struggled to keep pace with St. Louis' bats, and a disastrous ninth inning sealed their fate.

The Milwaukee Brewers suffered a disappointing 7-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night, in a game that featured a high-scoring affair and a costly defensive collapse in the late innings.

Milwaukee's offense kept the game close throughout, but could not match the Cardinals' output. St. Louis jumped out to an early lead, with Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado driving in runs in the first and second innings, respectively.

The Brewers chipped away at the deficit, with Willy Adames and Rowdy Tellez hitting solo home runs in the third and fourth innings. However, the Cardinals continued to add to their lead, with Lars Nootbaar's RBI single in the fifth and another run-scoring hit by Goldschmidt in the seventh.

The game took a decisive turn in the ninth inning. With two outs and runners on first and second, Cardinals' reliever Giovanny Gallegos uncorked a wild pitch that allowed a run to score. Luis Urias followed with a two-run double, giving Milwaukee a 4-3 lead.

But the Brewers' joy was short-lived. Cardinals' outfielder Dylan Carlson hit a game-tying home run off Devin Williams, and Paul DeJong followed with a two-run double to put St. Louis back in front. The Cardinals added another run on a single by Goldschmidt, giving them a 7-4 lead.

The Brewers were unable to rally in the bottom of the ninth, as Josh Hader struck out the side to end the game.

The loss drops the Brewers to 3-4 on the season, while the Cardinals improve to 4-3.
