Blake Griffin Announces Retirement from NBA

Six-Time All-Star Calls It a Career

Former Top Pick retires after 13 seasons.

Blake Griffin, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NBA draft, has announced his retirement from the league.

Griffin, 33, played 13 seasons in the NBA, spending the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Clippers. He was a six-time NBA All-Star and won the Kia Rookie of the Year award in 2011.

Griffin's retirement comes after a season in which he averaged 6.4 points and 4.1 rebounds per game for the Brooklyn Nets. He was traded to the Nets in February 2021 after spending the previous season with the Detroit Pistons.

Griffin was known for his athleticism and high-flying dunks. He was a key member of the Clippers' "Lob City" era, alongside Chris Paul and DeAndre Jordan.

In a statement announcing his retirement, Griffin said, "I've been incredibly fortunate to have played the game I love for so many years at the highest level. I've met incredible people and made lifelong friendships throughout my career. I'm eternally grateful to my family, friends, teammates, coaches, and fans who have supported me throughout my journey."
