EU Commission President Slams Far-Right AfD Party Over Alleged Spying

Von der Leyen Condemns Anti-EU Agenda of German Extremist Group

Investigation into AfD's Supposed Ties to Russia Raises Concerns for EU

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has strongly denounced the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party over allegations that some of its members are involved in espionage for Russia. In a statement issued on Wednesday, von der Leyen expressed her deep concern over the "unacceptable" actions attributed to the AfD.

The allegations against the AfD stem from an investigation by German intelligence agencies, which reportedly found that the party maintained covert contacts with Russian officials and organizations. These contacts are believed to have been aimed at undermining the EU and promoting Russia's interests.

Von der Leyen emphasized that the EU stands firmly against any foreign interference in its internal affairs. She called on the AfD to fully cooperate with the investigation and to denounce any activities that threaten the stability and security of the bloc.

The scandal surrounding the AfD has further eroded the party's already fragile standing within the EU. In the 2019 European Parliament elections, the AfD emerged as Germany's largest party, exploiting widespread dissatisfaction with mainstream politics. However, the party's extremist rhetoric and anti-EU agenda have alienated many voters.

The allegations of espionage have dealt a significant blow to the AfD's credibility and raised questions about its future. The party leadership has denied the accusations, but the evidence against it appears to be mounting.
